It seems like every few months, I go on a "quest" to find better products for Goose. With all the scare of plastics now days, I figured it was time to look for her some better sippy cups. I searched Amazon, researched pretty much every sippy cup they had, and then decided on a stainless steal cup would be best for us right now.
Kid Basix was one of my favorites from the start. They have several different options that will meet almost everyone's needs.
They start out with the Safe Starter.
It is a stainless steel bottle that comes in 5oz and 9oz and three beautiful colors.
Next, they have The Safe Sippy and The Safe Sippy 2.
I chose to review the Safe Sippy2. I feel it gives you more options and room for your child to grow with the cup. The Safe Sippy2 comes with three options for how to use ; a clear valve, solid orange travel plug, and a straw adapter.
I love the clear valve and the straw adapter (Goose can't decide what she likes best, and pretty much changes her mind daily on how she wants to drink from this cup). The travel plug (the solid orange one) has yet to be used by us, since we don't really use a diaper bag or anything like that anymore.
Please note, that the travel plug, is what it sounds like. A plug. The child cannot drink from the cup with the travel plug is in, but does make the sippy cup completely leak proof.
As you may notice the spout on these sippy cups are a little different. They have a straw like design made from hard BPA free plastic, and that honestly confused Goose a little bit a first. But she got the hang of it in no time at all. Now, I didn't know this, but according to the Kid Basix information, the straw shape is designed specifically for developing palates, and the wide flat spouts found on some sippy cups emulate thumb sucking.
The body of this sippy cup and actually all of Kid Basix's products are made from a lightweight, durable, food grade stainless steel. It is non-leaching, anti-microbial, and can be put in the dishwasher (yay!).
The sleeve is made from thermoplastic rubber (click link for more information on thermoplastic rubber). Which makes it easy for little hands to hold onto, and helps insulate the cup.
The handles are made from the same hard plastic as the spout. They are completely removable for older children. Goose is 2 years 9 months, and I am still using it for her. It seems to help her be able to hang onto it better.
The Safe Sippy2 comes in one size of 11oz. You have choice of 6 colors that you can choose from when purchasing a Safe Sippy2. Goose choose herself the green, and we are very happy with how bright and cheerful it is.
If you have a pre-schooler or older child you might want to look into The Safe Sporter.
The Safe Sporter comes in two sizes; the 12oz or lunch box size or the 16 oz the soccer field size.
All in all, I love these cups. They are going to run price wise a little more than your normal sippy cup. The Safe Sippy2 is for sale right now on Amazon for $15.95.
If you would like to check the bottles and cups out for yourself, you have a few ways you can do that. You can visit them on their website at http://www.kid-basix.com. They also have a Facebook page, and you can follow them on Twitter.
