For the gift guide I wanted to bring you something a little different. Something that would be fun for someone who has a green thumb and might be hard to buy for. So, when I saw the Tickle Me Plant, I thought it would be a great addition to the guide.
What is a Tickle Me Plant? The Mimosa pudica, the Tickle Me Plant, creeping annual or perennial herb. They are mostly grown for their curiosity value. When the leaves of the plant are stimulated, they fold up and droop.
The Tickle Me Plant is really easy to grow. Before you plant your seeds, with adult supervision you will want to place them in a cup of very hot water (just started boiling). Let to seeds soak for 24-48 hours. Plant 3+ seeds no deeper than 1/8 inch below the soil in a small pot or cup. Once planted, you will want to place your seeds in an area that is partially to mostly sunny. Try to keep your planted seeds in a room that is going to be 70º or above day or night for quicker sprouting time.
If you would like to buy your own seeds, they can be purchased on http://ticklemeplant.com/ and a few other places. If you are in the USA or Canada, the cost of 5 seed packs is going to run you about $5.50 + shipping. If you would like a kit with the pots, seeds, mini greenhouse, and peat pellets, those start at $12.99 + shipping and go up from there.
The good people over at Tickle Me Plant, are also letting me give 5 people a Tickle Me Plant seed packet. The contest will be a little different from the others I have going on right now. There will be a trivia question posted on Facebook and Twitter. If you answer the question correctly, your name will will be numbered. On 12/8/13 at 11:59, I will pick 5 winners to get their very own Tickle Me Plant seed packet. So, be sure to watch for the trivia question soon on the Baby Marohn Facebook and Twitter pages.
