Kong Review and Giveaway

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
Oh the Kong, how I love the Kong.  I think I like it almost as much as my dogs!!

If you have never seen or used a Kong you don't know what you a missing.  The Kong is made out of puncture resistant rubber, so even the sharpest puppy teeth can't get through it.

The awesome people over at Kong made the Kong hollow so that you can stuff it with your dog's favorite treat, the paste that Kong sells, peanut butter, canned dog food, or what ever you come up with.  In fact Kong has recipes listed on their website that can be used in the Kong: http://www.kongcompany.com/recipes/

Now that you know what Kongs are and what to stuff them with, there are a few other things you should one.

1.  You should always get the rings size Kong for your dog.  Kongs come in the following sizes: XS (up to 5lbs), S (up to 20lbs), M(15-35lbs), L(30-65lbs), XL(60-95lbs), and XXL(90lbs and up).  A toy poodle doesn't need to get a XXL Kong and a Great Dane doesn't need an XS Kong.  The toy poodle wouldn't enjoy a Kong that large, and the Great Dane could choke on a Kong that small.

2. There are different rubber types for different chewers and stages of life.  If you have a dog that LOVES to chew, you might want to get the Kong Extreme.  For Puppies, Kong makes a perfect chew toy.  They have Kongs with squeakers and withou, and is great for puppies up to 9 months old.  For ageing teeth and jaws, Kong makes a senior Kong.

3. There are some things that should never be put in your Kong.  Most people know not to give their dogs chocolate, but did you know that there are more dangerous foods out there?  Rasins/Grapes, onions, garlic are just a few foods that you need NOT to put in the Kong toy. For a full list, check out this list by the ASPCA.

4.  If your Kong starts to break take it away.  This is kind of common sense.  If your Kong is crumbling little pieces of rubber everywhere, take it away, and get your dog a new one.  Don't make your Kong a choking hazard.

5. Chewing is good for dental health.  As a former vet assistant, I can't tell you how important dental health is to your dog.  When your dog plays and chews on the Kong, it helps eliminate some of that dental tarter that could build up over time.  Kong even makes specialized toys just to aid in dental health.

Now, are you wondering where to purchase a Kong for you dog?  The latest one that I got for my dog, came from EntirelyPets.com, but I've seen them on Amazon and at other places that carry pet supplies.  I've even seen some Vet Hospitals have them in the clinics.

You can also try and win one from EntirelyPets.com in the form below.  You have from now until 3/7/14 at 11:59pm to enter.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
