Baby Marohn's Holiday Gift Guide: Tickle Me Plant Review & Giveaway

For the gift guide I wanted to bring you something a little different.  Something that would be fun for someone who has a green thumb and might be hard to buy for.  So, when I saw the Tickle Me Plant, I thought it would be a great addition to the guide.  

What is a Tickle Me Plant?

The Mimosa pudica, the Tickle Me Plant, creeping annual or perennial herb.  They are mostly grown for their curiosity value.  When the leaves of the plant are stimulated, they fold up and droop.

The Tickle Me Plant is really easy to grow.  Before you plant your seeds, with adult supervision you will want to place them in a cup of very hot water (just started boiling).  Let to seeds soak for 24-48 hours. Plant 3+ seeds no deeper than 1/8 inch below the soil in a small pot or cup.  Once planted, you will want to place your seeds in an area that is partially to mostly sunny.  Try to keep your planted seeds in a room that is going to be 70º or above day or night for quicker sprouting time.

A great idea would be get these for a homeschooling group so that they can do experiments with them.  A few suggested ideas are "Will misting your plants with water make them grown taller?", "Use a toothpick to try to find out which part of the Tickle Me Plant is most sensitive to touch".  The plant would make a great learning opportunity for children.
